The Lincolnshire Counselling Association (LCA) is an independent, non-profit professional membership body created to connect, support, and develop therapeutic practitioners across our county.
The Lincolnshire Counselling Association (LCA) has been established to create a professional community that supports, connects and develops counselling practitioners throughout the county of Lincolnshire. The Association has been founded on the belief that strong practitioners create stronger communities, and that by investing in the professional development, wellbeing and collaboration of counsellors, the quality of support available to individuals, families and communities can be strengthened.
Â
LCA has been created in response to a recognised need for a county-wide organisation dedicated to the counselling profession. Whilst national professional bodies provide registration, accreditation, ethical frameworks and national representation, there remains an opportunity for a local organisation to bring practitioners together, foster meaningful professional relationships, encourage collaboration and provide accessible continuing professional development that reflects the needs of Lincolnshire's counselling community.
Â
The Association is not a counselling practice, a therapy provider or a commercial training organisation. Its purpose is to support those who deliver counselling and psychotherapy services by creating an inclusive, professional network that promotes excellence in practice, lifelong learning and mutual support.
Â
As an independent membership organisation, the Lincolnshire Counselling Association seeks to strengthen professional identity, reduce isolation, encourage reflective practice and provide opportunities for practitioners at every stage of their professional journey, from students beginning their training to experienced practitioners, supervisors, educators and leaders within the profession.

Our Story

The idea for the Lincolnshire Counselling Association emerged from a simple observation: despite the significant number of counselling professionals working throughout the county, there was no single organisation dedicated to bringing them together under a shared local identity.
Â
Many practitioners work independently within private practice, charities, schools, universities, healthcare settings, employee assistance programmes and community organisations. Whilst these professionals often share common values, challenges and aspirations, opportunities to connect, collaborate and learn from one another have traditionally been limited. For many practitioners, professional life can become isolated, particularly for those working in sole practice or in rural communities where access to local peer networks and professional development opportunities may be restricted.
Â
Lincolnshire is one of England's largest counties by geographical area, encompassing vibrant cities, market towns and extensive rural communities. This diversity creates both opportunities and challenges for counselling professionals. Travelling significant distances for training, networking or supervision is often impractical, while access to locally relevant professional events can be inconsistent. The Association has been established to help bridge these gaps by creating a network that is rooted within the county whilst embracing modern digital technology to ensure accessibility for all members.
Â
The Association also recognises that the counselling profession continues to evolve. Increasing public awareness of mental health, changes within health and social care, greater recognition of psychological wellbeing and growing demand for counselling services all place new expectations upon practitioners. Alongside these developments comes an increasing need for accessible professional development, opportunities for reflective practice, ethical discussion, peer support and collaborative learning.
Â
The Lincolnshire Counselling Association has therefore been founded not simply to organise events or provide member discounts, but to create a lasting professional community that supports the counselling profession across Lincolnshire for many years to come.

Who We Are

The Lincolnshire Counselling Association is an independent professional membership organisation serving the counselling community across Lincolnshire.
Â
Our members include qualified counsellors, psychotherapists, counselling students and associate professionals whose work complements the counselling profession. Together, they represent a diverse community of practitioners working across a wide range of settings including private practice, the NHS, education, voluntary organisations, social care, community services and employee wellbeing.
Â
The Association exists solely for the benefit of its members and the wider profession. It does not provide counselling directly to members of the public and does not seek to compete with individual counselling practices or existing professional bodies. Instead, its role is to complement existing organisations by creating opportunities for local collaboration, networking, education and professional growth.
Â
The Association is founded upon the principles of professionalism, integrity, inclusion and lifelong learning. It recognises that high-quality counselling relies not only upon professional knowledge and ethical practice but also upon ongoing reflection, continual development and meaningful connection with peers.

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Lincolnshire Counselling Association is to strengthen the counselling profession throughout Lincolnshire by supporting those who dedicate their careers to improving the mental health and wellbeing of others.
Â
The Association seeks to provide an environment in which practitioners can continue to learn, develop and connect throughout every stage of their professional journey. Through continuing professional development, networking, collaboration and the sharing of knowledge and experience, members will have opportunities to enhance both their professional competence and their confidence as practitioners.
Â
LCA also recognises that the wellbeing of practitioners is fundamental to the quality of care provided to clients. Counselling can be emotionally demanding work, and maintaining resilience requires access to supportive professional relationships, reflective practice and opportunities to learn alongside colleagues who understand the realities of therapeutic work. By encouraging these connections, the Association aims to contribute not only to professional excellence but also to practitioner wellbeing.
Â
In addition, the Association aims to promote counselling as a respected profession within Lincolnshire by building positive relationships with educational institutions, employers, healthcare providers, voluntary organisations and local communities. Through partnership and collaboration, LCA seeks to contribute to the continued development of counselling services across the county while supporting the professionals who deliver them.

Our Role Within Lincolnshire

The Lincolnshire Counselling Association has been established to act as a central point of connection for counselling professionals throughout the county.
Â
Its role extends beyond organising professional events. The Association seeks to cultivate a collaborative community where practitioners can exchange ideas, share expertise, discuss emerging issues within the profession and support one another in maintaining high standards of practice.
Â
Through accessible continuing professional development, networking opportunities, conferences, workshops, online learning and member resources, the Association aims to create an environment that encourages professional curiosity, innovation and reflective practice.
Â
The Association also intends to become a recognised voice for counselling within Lincolnshire by building constructive relationships with universities, colleges, local authorities, NHS organisations, charitable organisations and other stakeholders who share an interest in improving mental health and emotional wellbeing across the county.

Governance & Ethical Standards

LCA is designed to work alongside, not replace or compete with, national registration and accreditation bodies such as the BACP, NCPS, UKCP, and other recognised organisations.

While national bodies provide essential accreditation, registration, and ethical frameworks, LCA provides the vital local connection. Our members may belong to one or more national bodies while benefiting from accessible CPD, local networking, and peer support close to home.
